SDP actively collaborates with alumni, schools, community colleges, and corporations to identify potential students and nurture their relationship with Missouri S&T. Staff interact regularly with high school counselors, visiting teachers, and community college administrators and professors.

Emerson

Emerson Electric Company – Minority Engineering Transfer Program
St. Louis Community College     St. Louis, MO

The Emerson Electric Company, St. Louis Community College, and Missouri S&T co-sponsor an engineering transfer program to encourage and support promising minority students wishing to enter the field of engineering. This scholarship program provides tuition and other related costs for qualified minority high school graduates who enter the Engineering Science degree program at St. Louis Community College (SLCC). The students are required to follow a course of study which will prepare them to transfer to an engineering program at Missouri S&T. The scholarship is to be awarded on a semester-by-semester basis for up to six consecutive semesters at SLCC and four semesters at Missouri S&T. After successful completion of the program at SLCC, the students then will be eligible to obtain a Transfer Scholarship offered by SDP. Students selected to participate in the Emerson Electric Company

Minority Engineering Scholarship program must meet the following criteria:

  • High school graduate with a math and science GPA of 2.5 or better, and ACT math and science subscores of 18 or better.
  • Member of an under-represented minority group (Native American, African American, or Hispanic/Latino American).
  • Residency in St. Louis City or St. Louis, St. Charles, Jefferson, or Franklin County, Missouri; Madison, Monroe, or St. Clair County, Illinois.
  • Two years of high school mathematics (Algebra I or higher).
  • Two strong recommendations – at least one from a high school math or science teacher.

 

Sprint

Sprint – Minority Engineering Transfer Program
Metropolitan Community College     Kansas City, MO

Sprint, Missouri S&T, and the Metropolitan Community Colleges (MCC) of Kansas City, Missouri have partnered to create the Sprint Minority Engineering Scholarship Program. The purpose of the program is to encourage minority students to enter the fields of civil, computer, or electrical engineering. The program also provides internships to qualified students. This exceptional engineering scholarship program is open to students that meet the following criteria:

  • Interest in a career in civil, computer, or electrical engineering.
  • Member of an under-represented minority group (Native American, African American, or Hispanic/Latino American).
  • Resident of the states of Kansas or Missouri.
  • Graduating high school student –or– Current Metropolitan Community College student with a 3.0 GPA in math and science coursework.

 

Caterpillar

Caterpillar – Minority Engineering Transfer Program
Illinois Central College     Peoria, IL

Caterpillar, Missouri S&T, and Illinois Central College of Peoria, Illinois have partnered to create the Caterpillar Minority Engineering Scholarship Program. The purpose of the program is to support minority students pursuing degrees in engineering, computing, or the sciences. Participants begin their studies at Illinois Central College and then transfer to Missouri S&T at a later date. This exceptional engineering scholarship program is open to students that meet the following criteria:

  • Interest in declaring an engineering major.
  • Member of an under-represented minority group (Native American, African American, or Hispanic/Latino American).
  • High School Graduate or current ICC STEM student with 2.8 GPA or higher –and– resident of the state of Illinois.
  • Overall GPA (High School) – 2.0 or better.
  • Math and Science GPA – 3.0 or better.
  • Composite ACT Score 18 or better –and– Math and Science ACT subscores 20 or better.
  • Strong recommendation by High School Math and/or Science teacher(s).

Note: While these programs present a great option for many students, applicants DO NOT have to participate in one of the three programs above to qualify for an SDP Transfer Scholarship. To be considered for an SDP Transfer Scholarship, refer to requirements online.
